Edmund Chung
Violin
Edmund Chung first began his violin studies at the age of four in Hong Kong. He continued his studies with Shirley Givens at The Juilliard School in the pre-college division when he was 7 years old. At the age of 18 while studying with Toni Stanick, he was the grand prize winner of CMC (’08). He completed his Bachelor’s (’15) and Master’s Degree (’17) at the University of British Columbia, where he studied with Professor David Gillham. He then spent a year in Bergen, Norway, studying with David Stewart (‘17-’18). Edmund attended music festivals such as the Heifetz Institute, Orford Music, Greenwood, and Le Domaine Forget. He was also a fellow at Tanglewood Music Center for two summers (‘17, ‘18), where he served as Concertmaster and Assistant Concertmaster. Before joining the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Edmund was a regular substitute for the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
Clare Bradford
Cello
Praised for her “beauty of tone and musical line” (South Florida Classical Review), cellist Clare Bradford enjoys a career as an orchestral player and chamber musician. In previous years she has played with the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, Lakes Area Music Festival and has had a long-standing collaboration with the Classical Music Institute (CMI) of San Antonio where she is a teacher and guest artist. She is also a recent alumna of the New World Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. Ms. Bradford has always had a particular love for works by living composers which has led her to collaborate closely in chamber music settings with some of the most recognized composers of our time such as Marcos Balter, Missy Mazzoli, Caroline Shaw and Joan Tower. She was also a guest at the 2021 Ojai Music Festival which was led by John Adams. Clare has performed 21st century cello concertos, such as Tan Dun’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon concerto with the New World Symphony and Dobrinka Tabakova’s Cello Concerto with the CMI Chamber Orchestra. Clare completed her conservatory training with a Bachelor degree at New England Conservatory and a Masters degree at the Juilliard School. She is currently freelancing in Calgary.
Jesse Morrison
Viola
Violist Jesse Morrison joined the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2019/2020 Season. He was most recently living in Toronto and was frequently playing with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, as well as playing with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra in Minnesota.Recipient of the 2016 Sylva Gelber Award, Mr. Morrison is an avid chamber musician and is an alumnus of festivals such as Yellow Barn, Kneisel Hall, the Banff Centre and Domaine Forget. He has also participated as faculty and artist in residence at the Classical Music Institute (CMI) in San Antonio, ChamberFest West in Calgary, Flatirons Chamber Music Festival in Boulder, Colorado, “Concerts in the Barn” in Quilcene, Washington, Sunset Chamber Music Festival in Los Angeles, and NEXUS Chamber Music in Chicago.Jesse graduated in May 2017 with a M.M from the New England Conservatory (NEC) in Boston, studying with Kim Kashkashian. Morrison had his solo debut in Jordan Hall when performing as the winner of the Chamber Orchestra Competition at NEC in 2016 and again in 2017 with the Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of the Neruda String Quartet in 2015-16, which won the chamber music competition at NEC, resulting in a debut recital in Jordan Hall. Additionally, from 2011-2015, he was the violist in the Arkadas String Quartet, a Toronto-based ensemble which won the Felix Galimir Award at the University of Toronto.A native of Toronto, Ontario, Jesse received a Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto under Teng Li and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School under Steven Dann. Mr. Morrison is artistic director for Music for Food, which is a musician-led initiative that raises resources and awareness in the fight against hunger.
Hojean Yoo
Viola
Violinist Hojean Yoo was born in Seoul, South Korea and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at major venues. Hojean regularly appears on recital series as a Young Artist of Kumho Art Hall Foundation since 2008, Yejin Young Artist Foundation, and Young Artist Festival in South Korea. She was selected as a Fellow Artist of La Jolla Music Festival, Schumann Festival Concert and Seoul Spring Festival-fringe Festival in South Korea. Hojean has performed with Euro Asia Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonia, Seoul National University Philharmonic, Seoul National University String Chamber orchestra, among others, and her performances broadcasted on Korean Radio(KBS). She is a recipient of top prizes at the several competitions, at Music Education News Concours, Busan Music Competition, Seoul High Schools Chamber Music Competition and Berlin International Competition in Seoul, 2010. She was also selected as a semi-finalist in the Schmidbauer International Competition and the Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria. A dedicated passionate orchestral and chamber musician, Hojean is a member of Ardor Piano Trio and she served as member of Huntington Quartet. She has performed at the Academy Art Museum, American Shakespeare Center, Friedberg Hall, Kumho Art Hall, and Seoul Art Center.
Hojean’s festival appearances include the Banff Chamber Music Society, Beethoven Institute, Great Mountains Music Festival, Heifetz Music institute, La Jolla Music Society, Sarasota Festival, and Verbier Festival. She has worked and collaborated with members of Borromeo, Brentano, Emerson, Guarneri, Parker, St. Lawrence Quartets, and renowned artists including Amit Peled, Anni Kavafian, Christoph Henkel, Daniel Philip, Frans Helmerson, Gil Kalish, James Dunham, Kim Kashkashian, Laurence Lesser, Mark Steinberg, Pamela Frank, Paul Coletti, and Philip Setzer. Hojean commenced studies in Seoul at the age of 8. She graduated from Yewon Art School, Seoul Art High School and received her Bachelor’s of Music from Seoul National University under Kyung Sun Lee. Furthermore she studied with Soovin Kim and received Master’s Degree from Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and Graduate Diploma from New England Conservatory.
